To rate I had to give one star. But I give it zero stars. I never got to hike to the falls. I paid $5 to drive around and not be able to park. They will sell parking tickets without metering the parking vs tickets sold. I drove around for 45 minutes and left. Told the lady on the way out that there was no parking. She said sorry while selling parking tickets to people on the way in. I mean a line of cars paying to go to a place with no parking. They should have a counter on entrance and exiting vehicles. A dang joke. Poorly ran facility. Basically a government money scam. I won’t go near it again. And people of Ellijay. I won’t visit your city again either just because of the parking rip off at the park. You should complain as well. It’s costing your town money now.
5 stars because it is beautiful.
My son comes with me to the Falls every year in October. It is the perfect time to come. The weather is great, the leaves are beautiful and you can go to the pumpkin farm on the way home. The waterfall is gorgeous. Try camping for an extra treat. It is my son’s favorite Georgia State Park. We will be back!
2 stars for $18 buffet of mediocre food.
1 stars for service. I wanted a soda in the evening. The soda machine on third floor doesn't work. Went to desk clerk on second floor for help. She sent me to soda machine on first floor. I explore every nook and cranny but am unable to find any soda machine on first floor. I go back to second floor where I see a soda cooler in the gift shop 20 feet directly in front of the front desk. (funny she didn't mention this when I was there before) I get a soda. A sign in gift shop says pay at front desk. She's now busy with a check-in. I try to pay idle restaurant cashier. She says to pay busy desk clerk. I wait 5 minutes for desk clerk (same one who sent me on a wild goose chase) to multitask 5 seconds to take my soda money. Desk clerk completely ignores me and instead waits patiently on slow-motion woman attempting to find confirmation number on her phone. I leave soda on desk and return to my room thirsty and angry. I spend the rest of the evening fuming.
This a beautiful fall well worth the travel. Know this you may see snakes they point this out on the trail and it is true. I highly recommend walking up and down the stairs. But if you have a fear of heights or feel intimidated there are several ways to hike up and down and they are equally worth it. Do come early in the peak season because parking gets scarce. And when you have to climb and park it is a pain not to find a space. Space is limited. We visited around 9 am and started real hike around 10 am I say that was perfect. Take the longer trail, the trail that is just for the top of the falls is nice but hella rocky and the top of the falls is nice but beautiful views are at the observation deck level below the top of the fall. But it was fun. I enjoyed the hike a lot.
Wonderful way to spend a day. The falls are beautiful! The paths were well maintained and the lodge has an amazing view of the sunset if you make it that far!!
